Yes. Beginners who have never worked with clay start with our 4-week Pottery Essentials course before becoming a member. The course covers studio procedures, basic wheel throwing, and studio equipment to help you get started in the studio.
-
Pottery Essentials is a four-week introduction to the Strata Clay studio for those new to pottery. This course is designed to prepare beginners to work safely and independently in a shared studio environment by introducing studio equipment, tools, essential wheel-throwing skills and glaze application.
Potters with previous experience may instead complete the Studio Orientation before joining.
-
Members with previous pottery experience complete a 2-hour Studio Orientation before beginning membership. During orientation, you will tour the studio, learn how equipment and materials are organized, review studio policies and procedures, and become familiar with cleaning expectations, storage areas, and other important information to help keep the studio safe and running smoothly.
-
Studio Support hours are scheduled times each week when staff are available to provide assistance in a group setting. Whether you need help troubleshooting a technique, refining a form, or getting feedback on a project, these sessions provide an opportunity to ask questions and receive hands-on guidance.
-
Strata Clay is a membership pottery studio rather than a traditional teaching studio. Instead of multi-week classes, members learn through independent practice, and weekly Studio Support hours where staff are available to answer questions, demonstrate techniques, and provide individualized guidance.
This flexible approach allows members to learn at their own pace while developing confidence and skills through regular practice.
